
Your Guide to Assistive Technology
and the NDIS
The NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) was implemented by the Australian government to assist eligible people with disabilities to access resources and support, including assistive technology. Assistive technology is equipment or devices, medical or otherwise, that will help you live comfortably, safely, and as independently as possible, with your disability. Our specialist teams at Rehab Hire & Sales are experienced in healthcare and familiar with the NDIS. They can provide assistance with accessing assistive technologies through your NDIS plan. Who is eligible for support?
The following criteria need to be met to be eligible to participate in the scheme. The individual must:
- Be aged between 7 years and 65 years
- Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or Protected Special Category Visa holder
- Meet the disability requirements or the early intervention requirements

Rehab Hire & Sales and Assistive Technology
Rehab Hire & Sales is a registered provider of assistive technology products and equipment for purchase or hire to NDIS participants. We offer low-risk AT products (products that are unlikely to cause harm in everyday use, readily available, and easy to set up and use safely without professional advice or expertise). We also offer higher-risk AT products, which may include complex technologies, for example, power wheelchairs that require clinical/professional advice, setup, and sometimes training, for safe use.

Who are we?
Rehab Hire & Sales is a dedicated sales and hire business specialising in the supply and prescription of hospital, and complex rehabilitation equipment. We service the Greater Melbourne area and surrounding regions.
Product Specialists
Our product specialists are AT experts and will work with your therapists to create an individually tailored plan to help you live your best life. The team will ensure you receive the equipment that best suits your needs. They will prepare a quote and an NDIS service agreement for NDIS approval.
NDIS Team
Our dedicated NDIS team can liaise with you, your support coordinator, and your plan manager, whether you are plan-managed, agency-managed, or self-managed, to assist you with accessing that equipment. They can also request confirmation of funding from your plan manager. Please call or email them to ask for their assistance.
Equipment Trials
We provide equipment trials for purchase at a location that best suits you. One of our product specialists will travel to your home, aged care facility, or assisted living facility at a mutually convenient time to meet with you and your occupational therapist, physiotherapist, or other allied health professional. They will ensure you receive the best solution for your needs from our extensive, handpicked equipment range.
Alternatively, you are welcome to trial equipment with your therapist by appointment at our Port Melbourne showroom or at our Narre Warren 24/7 showroom.
Hire Equipment
We offer an extensive range of assistive technology products for hire, with a minimum hire period of 2 weeks. The NDIS may approve funding for hire equipment whilst you wait for your custom-ordered equipment to be delivered, ensuring you are receiving the care you require without delay.
Equipment Installation and Training
Most equipment will be delivered by our experienced delivery team. An appointment can be arranged for one of our product specialists to come to you to train you, your therapist, or your carer in using your new equipment, if required. Complex equipment will be delivered and installed by a product specialist.
Equipment Repair and Service
Our experienced team will collect, inspect, provide a quote, repair, and deliver your equipment promptly. If, for reasons beyond our control, your equipment cannot be repaired immediately, you may wish to consider our hire option to ensure continuity of care.

Home Modifications
Our registered building company, Rehab Installation, operates in accordance with Australian Standards and best industry practice to deliver a highly skilled, professional installation service. They will work with you and your care team to provide NDIS-approved modifications to make living in your own home as safe and comfortable as possible.
